About
Rodney Nanney serves as the Community and Economic Development Director for the Charter Township of Union. He joined the Township in January of 2020, just in time for the start of the COVID19 pandemic. In this role, Rodney leads the Township’s economic development efforts and directs work in the East and West Downtown Development Authority Districts. He also oversees the work of departmental staff in the areas of building services, rental inspections, land use planning, zoning, and ordinance enforcement. He also serves as the Chair of the Mt. Pleasant Municipal Airport’s Joint Operations and Management Board, an intergovernmental agency bringing together the Township, City of Mt. Pleasant, Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, Isabella County, and the Middle Michigan Development Corporation.
Rodney has more than twenty years of professional experience in the fields of community planning and economic development, as well as a number of years of business experience. He also has an all-too-rare gift among community planners, which is an ability to communicate planning and zoning concepts in plain language – no buzzwords! He is married with three children, and in his free time he would prefer to be found with a book, on a Lake Michigan beach, or out on his bike.
